A not so happy Chirstmas ='(

photo by: Pearl Arroyo / Vilches Beach Resort

I hate that feeling. The feeling when you’re sad but you have no idea why. You just are. And in your mind, you’re thinking of all the bad things in your life and apply it to your emotions, making you even more sad. Then people ask you what’s wrong and you have nothing to say. You end up sitting there, "QUITE", while it seems as if everyone, but you, is happy...

Night at Siraan

Your silence bites into my heart deeper than a knife. I wish i could tell you my pain and let you know my strife. You told me that you loved me once-upon-a-time, but you left me in a heartbeat and i knew you'd never be mine....

Thank you for wrapping my body with your "Saarong" last night!

Me Again

I am not a " girly-girl " nor am I " tomboy " I play video games. I don’t like bugs. I like to look cute & pretty. Soft spoken but I don’t use a high pitched voice when I talk to guys. Pink is not my favorite color. I can play sports. Dirt is not an enemy. I don’t flirt with every guy out there. Sparkly stuff doesn’t grab my attention. I like to shop, but I don’t like spending too much. I don’t wear heels. I eat what I want, when I want. I am me.....

Pinoy GLEE?

Rachel Ann Go as Queena Flores (Glee's Quinn Fabray)

Sarah Geronimo as Rachel Borromeo (Glee's Rachel Berry)

Glee getting a Pinoy franchise? Sue Sylvester does not approve! hahaha...

Remember when news broke out that Rayver Cruz and Shaina Magdayao were going to be the Edward and Bella of the Philippines? Fans were outraged and even petitioned against it. Turns out it was a hoax.

It's happening all over again—this time with our new favorite TV series, Glee! If you were to cast your own Rachel Berry or Quinn Fabray, who would you pick?

In my opinion....Oh my god! NOOOOOOO! I am outraged. Dont do it!!!! You will make Glee look bad... ugh I hate it when they have to copy American shows or movies! They should be more original and make their own. Kasi naman all they make are dramas which targets only the middle aged people. They should create shows that are for teenager. And by that, I mean they should CREATE not COPY!!!!

Election 2010 (PH) Results

by: GMANews TV

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will release the uniform resource locator (URL) of the website where election results will be directly posted on late Monday, a poll body official said.

Comelec Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal said they decided to "delay" the release of the URL to lessen the possible incidents of hacking. The poll body had earlier said it will release the website address a day before the elections.

Larrazabal clarified, however, that problems with putting up the site were not the reason for the delay.

Smartmatic Asia president Cesar Flores said the website would supposedly be similar to that used by Venezuela in 2008.

Voting officially closes at 6 p.m. on Monday. The poll body said it expects to get about 70 percent of the results later in the day, which are expected to be posted on the website whose address has yet to be disclosed.

On the other hand, Larrazabal asked the public to be patient with the poll body's main website which has been encountering problems because of the traffic it has been receiving.

The website has an option where voters can search for their specific precincts.

For now, he said that voters can call the Comelec at the following numbers 527-0841, 527-2773, 527-2772, 527-0822, 526-7769, and 526-7770 to inquire about their precincts. — RSJ/LBG, GMANews.TV

Sayang dahil may Best in Science pa no’ng natanggap si Ami.
Napakailap at napakatinik daw kasing tumakas. Wala pang iniiwan kahit anong bakas.
Saan kaya sila papunta? A, doon sila papunta.

Well, I never heard it before, but it sounds uncommon nonsense.

The King
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.

Alice
I don't believe there's an atom of meaning in it.

The Queen
Sentence first -- verdict afterwards.

Alice
You're nothing but a pack of cards!

Alice
But then, shall I never get any older than I am now? That'll be a comfort, one way -- never to be an old woman -- but then -- always to have lessons to learn!

Alice
A cat may look at a king. I've read that in some book, but I don't remember where.

Alice
I think I should understand that better, if I had it written down: but I can't quite follow it as you say it.

The Duchess
That's nothing to what I could say if I chose.

The Queen
Now, I give you fair warning, either you or your head must be off, and that in about half no time! Take your choice!

Alice
If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn't be. And what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?

Alice
It would be so nice if something made sense for a change.

Doorknob
Read the directions and directly you will be directed in the right direction.
Mad Hatter
No wonder you're late. Why, this watch is exactly two days slow.

Alice
Let me see: four times five is twelve, and four times six is thirteen, and four times seven is -- oh dear! I shall never get to twenty at that rate!

Alice
It was much pleasanter at home, when one wasn't always growing larger and smaller, and being ordered about by mice and rabbits.

Alice
Well! I've often seen a cat without a grin; but a grin without a cat! It's the most curious thing I ever say in my life!

The Duchess
There's a large mustard-mine near here. And the moral of that is -- The more there is of mine, the less there is of yours.

The Mock Turtle
What is the use of repeating all that stuff, if you don't explain it as you go on? It's by far the most confusing thing I ever heard!

The Mock Turtle
Ah! Then yours wasn't a really good school. Now at ours they had at the end of the bill. French, music, and washing -- extra.

Alice
Oh, how I wish I could shut up like a telescope! I think I could, if I only knew how to begin.

Gibo surges in survey by poll firm owned by Arroyo allies

By Raissa Robles, Vera Files

Close allies of First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo are behind the new polling firm StratPOLLS Inc., which recently showed administration candidate Gilberto Teodoro surging dramatically in its recent survey of presidential candidates.

Aware of the power of surveys to sway voters come election day, Congress enacted the Fair Election Act in 2001 to require polling firms to be more transparent. Last week, however, the Commission on Elections issued new rules that appear to weaken and in effect amend that section of the Fair Election Act on surveys.

Under the law, anyone can set up shop to conduct political surveys, which was what happened on July 29, 2009 when five incorporators formed StratPOLLS Inc. with a paid-up capital of P1 million. They include Dominga Rufina Chua, who owns the biggest share at 40 percent, and Benjamin Ramos and Feorelio Bote, who own 5 percent each.

Chua is a daughter of Ambassador Antonio Cabangon Chua who, together with Bote and Arroyo, formed The First Gentleman Foundation Inc. on May 28, 2002 to raise money for Arroyo's charity work. Ambassador Chua’s key aide, Benjamin Ramos, is a foundation officer but not an incorporator.

Ambassador Chua, the First Gentleman and President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo are widely known in the business community to be very close. For instance, before the 2004 presidential polls, the First Gentleman visited then Jaime Cardinal Sin to donate P1 million to the Archdiocese of Manila. An article in the Archdiocese of Manila website at that time said Arroyo was accompanied by Chua, then newly appointed ambassador to Laos, and “Chua's executive assistant Benjie Ramos.” The Website also quotes Sin advising them, “Tell Gloria to run” for president.

In August 2005, President Arroyo led the groundbreaking for Filipiniana Tagaytay Properties Inc., a multibillion-peso resort complex developed by the elder Chua, who also owns BusinessMirror newspaper, where Ramos sits as president.

Despite its owner’s close ties to the First Couple, the paper runs stories critical of the Arroyos. “We have editorial independence,” editor-in-chief Lourdes Molina Fernandez told VERA Files. “The ambassador doesn’t meddle. The publisher is his son, Anton,” she said, adding that the ambassador has friends of various political stripes.

Fernandez confirmed that StratPOLLS is a sister company but “we just get the results during the press conference like everybody else.” Another Chua-owned publication, Graphic magazine, obtains them first, she said.

StratPOLLS owners’ links to the Arroyo couple should not necessarily render its survey results suspect, said Dr. Elena Pernia, former dean of the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication and a communications research expert not connected to any poll firm. But she cast doubt on some of StratPOLLS’ recent findings and conclusions.

“It’s misleading,” she said.

StratPOLLS surveyed 2,400 respondents from “30 key cities.” Twenty of these cities are in Luzon, including four in Metro Manila, and five each in the Visayas and non-Muslim Mindanao. The polling took place from Jan. 16 to 22, and the results and findings entitled, “Opinion poll on criteria used by Filipino voters in the selection of the next President of the Philippines: Preference for President.”

The findings, prepared by its executive director Alfredo Sureta Jr., concluded that “Teodoro is the biggest gainer” because his numbers rose in their maiden survey in September from 5 percent to 11 percent last month. Sen. Manuel Villar also edged closer to frontrunner Sen. Benigno Aquino III.

Sureta, who teaches political science at the University of the East, drew up a table where he added up StratPOLLS’ results to those of three other polling firms—Social Weather Stations, Pulse Asia and a new opinion firm called The Center. He then divided the sum by four and noted the “average” which resulted in 38.5 percent for Aquino, 27 percent for Villar, 16.5 percent for ex-President Joseph Estrada, 7.5 percent for Teodoro and 4 percent for Sen. Richard Gordon.

Sureta explained he was copying “the practice in the United States, where poll results are printed side by side...with the hope that Philippine media would adopt the practice for the ‘maturation of Philippine democracy’ and a level playing field for candidates and voters alike.”

To prove his point, Sureta provided a table showing poll results of 10 American media outfits and universities on the question of whether respondents opposed or supported sending more troops to Afghanistan.

But Pernia, who holds a post-doctorate degree from Johns Hopkins University Center of Communication in Baltimore, said the American polls answerable by “yes” or “no” was far different from the Philippine polls, which asked respondents to name candidates.

She also said that adding up the poll results of each presidential candidate obtained by four different polling firms and then jotting down the average “is misrepresenting the data” and “misleading” the public. The averaging drives down the numbers of Aquino and Villar and raises that of Teodoro.

She said it misleads voters into thinking that the four polls were all alike when in fact their sampling procedures and assumptions were different.

Pernia said, “What StratPOLLS really wanted to show was the rise of Gibo (Teodoro).”

Sureta disagreed and said he had no intention of favoring any candidate or misleading voters. He said he averaged the results of four opinion firms because “from our perspective we only want to show different results of different firms. Beyond that, it’s up to the reader to assume but if you’re assuming those are different, well that’s a whole different view.”

He also said he made it clear their respondents came from 30 key cities nationwide. Told that SWS and Pulse Asia surveys included rural respondents, which Pulse Asia president Ronaldo Homes said comprised 51 percent of the voting population, Sureta said, “That’s for Pulse Asia to consider their own assumptions. We have our own sampling techniques.”

Sureta then clarified “we did include rural areas” but their interviewers used 30 cities as “anchor points.”

Sureta is not new in the polling business. He and a group of fellow academics from the University of Santo Tomas put up Proberz Inc., which conducted a nationwide exit poll during the 2004 presidential elections that showed actor Fernando Poe Jr. winning by 39 percent over Arroyo’s 35.

SWS’s exit poll had Arroyo winning by 45 percent over Poe’s 34. In that race, SWS was suspected of being pro-Poe because its founder Mahar Mangahas was his first cousin and its first survey showed Poe leading Arroyo 36 to 27 percent. But later surveys reversed this trend dramatically.

In this year’s polls, it is Pulse Asia’s turn to come under suspicion of bias since one of its incorporators, Rafa Lopa, is related to presidential frontrunner Aquino. Holmes said he replaced Lopa as company president in 2008 and their results were open to public scrutiny.

Unlike Pulse Asia and SWS, StratPOLLS soon intends to venture into the untested methods of polling using the Internet and mobile text messaging.

It declares its corporate mission to be to “function as an independent, non-partisan and academically committed source of primary survey data...relating to commercial products/services, mass media and social, political and economic issues.”

Sureta said, “I think the idea behind StratPOLLS is that Ambassador Chua wants an alternative source of public polling other than SWS.” He vouched for the firm’s impartiality, “even if some of the incorporators are allegedly close to the First Gentleman.”

Bilog Na Hugis Itlog - an instructional video for Philippine Election 2010

As GMA7's continuous commitment to serve the Filipino people this coming automated election 2010, one of its greatest talents Sexbomb dancers is releasing an election instruction video on how to vote.

The music video below in which the song title is Bilog na hugis Itlog (Circle with an egg shape) was made to assist voters on how to vote using the automated system.

Aside for the instruction, the Sexbomb dancers also gave emphasis why our vote is very important and that we should vote wisely.

The song was written by Jobart Bartolome while the music was created by Jonathan Ong, which will be expected to be viewed regularly soon at GMA7 and QTV11.

On the other hand, COMELEC officials were happy and even danced with it.

SMARTMATIC Auditable Election System

If your electoral agency seeks a fully-automated, electronic voting system that is completely secure, reliable and auditable, the Smartmatic Auditable Election System (SAES) is your solution.Proven under the rigorous scrutiny of independent international monitors in several national and regional elections, SAES has distinguished itself as the system beyond reproach. The powerful combination of robust hardware, secure software and highly qualified personnel enables the SAES system to guarantee elections that voters can trust, in any part of the world. From its voting machines that feature a variety of vote input devices, customizable interfaces and printed voter receipts, to its secure data transmission networks, high-end tallying servers, immediate results tabulation and fully auditable paper trail, the SAES technological platform is the only end-to–end system available that ensures democracy rules, cost effectively.

Security
The impenetrable architecture of SAES is the result of a number of security mechanisms that we created by combining internationally recognized and standard-based security algorithms. You won’t have to worry about election tampering.

Immediacy
Not only do SAES voting machines allow voters to cast their choice more quickly, they allow the results to be known just minutes after the last polling place has closed.

Veracity
Smartmatic was the first company in the world to include printed receipts so every voter can verify that their on screen selections were recorded accurately. This not only establishes an auditable paper trail, but invites public trust and establishes the credibility of the election.

Economy
The digital voting process reduces the cost of holding an election because it requires greatly reduced human and economic resources. In addition, a thousand tons of paper can be saved because the need to print anything is eliminated almost entirely!

Auditing
A prerequisite of Smartmatic’s engagement is that a series of audits are undertaken before, during and after the election. SAES has been designed to make this a simple procedure, creating what we believe is the most transparent automated-voting process available in the world.

Flexibility
Your electorate has its own laws and conventions for tallying votes. That’s why SAES has been designed to make configuration for different tallying methods easy. Whether you use D’Hondt, simple majority, relative majority or other counting methods, you won’t incur costly reprogramming fees.

Accessibility
Voters with disabilities can be accommodated comfortably by SAES voting machines. Buttons with specific shapes and colors, sip-and-puff devices and special earphones are just some of the features our machines possess in order to guarantee equality and independence for all voters.

Versatility
Smartmatic recognizes the value of innovations that contribute to security so we engineered SAES in a way that lets it integrate readily with civil registration and voter identification systems. SAES makes it easier to build on the security platform you already have in place.

Autonomy
In those cases where an electoral agency requires operational control, Smartmatic provides licensing solutions. Structured as a turnkey agreement with ongoing support, the technology transfer can be achieved in the mid- to long- term, after training has been completed.

20 Most Beautiful People of the Last Decade

In a decade when it has become daily ritual to witness our most famous, talented, and beautiful people in their gym sweats and flip flops at Starbucks, unaware of the long-lensed sniper in the bushes capturing them in exactly the angle of light and time of day that is maximally unflattering, we thought it'd be fitting to end the '00s with a glorious, glamorous look back at the 20 most beautiful people that have graced the pages of our magazine in the past 10 years. Sure, in an ideal world beauty would be nakedly apparent. But it doesn't hurt to have makeup, hair, wardrobe, and a talented, sympathetic photographer. And, in the tradition of this magazine, we encouraged them to speak freely—because the beautiful and famous are just dying to tell you something you didn't know about them.
